Hearing Aider Service

Many hard of hearing people have difficulty coming to terms with a hearing loss and have problems using their hearing aid.

The Hearing Aider service has been developed to provide support and encouragement to anyone experiencing hearing difficulties. Hearing aids require regular cleaning and basic maintenance to ensure the user achieves maximum benefit. Your role as a Visiting Hearing Aider will help this process.

Activities involved :
1. To visit clients in sheltered/supported housing or at home when mobility is a major problem.
2. To provide a basic maintenance service, including cleaning, retubing of NHS hearing aids and exchange batteries.
3, To recognise, troubleshoot and rectify hearing aid problems where possible and when appropriate.
4. To identify situations where a visit by Hertfordshire County Council’s Sensory Services Deaf Team may be beneficial.
5. To act as a source of support and encouragement.
6, To provide advice/information as necessary and be able to signpost the client to appropriate agencies/organisations which may be of benefit to them.
7. To help raise awareness of HHAS services in their local area.
8. With the client's consent, involve their family or carer in the understanding, use and care of their hearing aid/s.
